Upgrade or Downgrade a Managed Server

At any time, you can upgrade a Managed Server to add more resources. This may be necessary as you add more sites to your server, or if the resource usage of existing sites increases.

There are two ways to upgrade a Managed Server:

  1. You can upgrade your server to the next level, i.e. MS1+ -> MS2+. This will add more CPU cores, RAM, I/O operations, SSD Disk space, International Data, and increase the total sites supported.
  2. You can upgrade configuration options. This allows you to add any combination of CPU cores, RAM, SSD Disk, International Data, IP Addresses, Managed WordPress Installs and Backups.

In some circumstances, you may wish to downgrade your server, this is also possible, please see below for details.

Upgrade Managed Server Level

  1. Login to My WP NET.
  2. From the Services page, click into the Managed Server you wish to upgrade.
  3. From the sidebar menu 'Actions', click Upgrade/Downgrade.
  4. Select your desired level and click Choose Product.
  5. Follow the instructions to complete the checkout and pay for the upgrade.
  6. WP NET support will notify you once your server has been upgraded.

NOTES:

For a server upgrade we must perform a disk expand to increase the available SSD disk space and then restart your server. Expect downtime of approximately 5 - 10 minutes. WP NET support will contact you to arrange a suitable time to do this.

Upgrade Managed Server Configurable Options

  1. Login to My WP NET.
  2. From the Services page, click into the Managed Server you wish to upgrade.
  3. From the sidebar menu 'Actions', click Upgrade/Downgrade Options.

  5. Follow the instructions to complete the checkout and pay for the upgrade(s).
  6. WP NET support will notify you once your server has been upgraded.

NOTES:

  • Upgrading CPU cores and /or RAM requires a server restart. Expect downtime of approximately 2 - 3 minutes. WP NET support will contact you to arrange a suitable time to do this.
  • Upgrading SSD Disk space requires that we perform a disk expand and then restart your server. Expect downtime of approximately 5 - 10 minutes. WP NET support will contact you to arrange a suitable time to do this.
  • Upgrading International Data, IP Addresses, Managed WordPress Install or Backups does not require a server restart - the new resources are available as soon as WP NET support actions the upgrade.

Downgrade Managed Server

It is also possible to downgrade your server if you no longer require the resources available on your current server level. However, it is not possible to shrink a server's disk, so it is necessary to maintain the same size disk after the downgrade. This is done by setting configurable options on your new server level to maintain the same size disk as your server currently has allocated.

To order a Managed Server downgrade, please open a support ticket and WP NET Support will manage the process for you.
