WP NET creates backups of customer data automatically each night. This article details these backup procedures, the time-of-day that the typically run, their storage locations and retention periods.

WP Site (Plesk Panel)

The following backup policy applies to WP Site (and WP Studio) hosting plans only.

Automatic Plesk Backups - All Files and Databases

Automatic Plesk Backups are incremental. A full backup is taken every 7 days, followed by 6 incremental backups. Two complete backups are stored, meaning that available backups vary from a minimum of 7 days, up to 14 days.

Automatic Plesk Backups do not count towards the total storage allocation for your hosting plan.

  • Run - at approximately 12am each day.
  • Retained - for a minimum of 7 days (up to 14 days).
  • Stored - in a secure repository on the server, outside the web root.
  • Restoration - available on demand from the Plesk Panel Backup Manager.

IMPORTANT: Backup .zip, .gz and .tmp files located under your webroot are excluded from Automatic Plesk Backups.

Database-only Backups

These are generated by a custom program running on the server. All customer MySQL databases are included.

  • Run - at approximately 2am each day.
  • Retained - for 60 days.
  • Stored - locally, then sent (via HTTPS) to a secure cloud service repository and stored using AES256 encryption. The local copies are then deleted.
  • Restoration - customers must open a support ticket to request a database backup restoration.

WP Server

The following backup policy applies to WP Server (Vultr) products only.

On-demand Server Snapshot Backups

Each WP Server can create a single snapshot image backup. To create a backup, login to My WP NET and from the Service Details page go to the Snapshots tab to create a backup. Snapshot backup restoration must be performed by WP NET Support. If you need to access data from a snapshot backup, please open a support ticket.

Auto Snapshot Backups

Optional Auto Snapshot Backups can purchased at checkout.

Site Backups

Each site hosted on a WP Server, which has an active WP Shield plan is also backed up according to a custom schedule to suit your site's timezone and location. Backups are created using an efficient, server-side script and then stored on a secure cloud service repository using AES256 encryption.

If you need to restore data from a WP Server Site Backup, please open a support ticket.

Managed Server (NZ)

Our legacy NZ-hosted Managed Servers have a single daily Auto Snapshot Backup included.

The default is for a single image backup retention, recycled each day. Customers can upgrade to add more backup retentions.

  • Run - between 6pm - 6am (backup time varies to spread load across the network)
  • Retained - 1 day (default), upgradable as a configurable option.
  • Stored - in a secure repository off-server.
  • Restoration - customers must open a support ticket to request a server image backup restoration. A NZD$30 restoration fee applies.

For on-demand backups of individual websites on a WP Server, we recommend using a WordPress backup plugin, such as BackupBuddy. WP NET can provide a complimentary copy of BackupBuddy to all WP NET customers, just open a support ticket and we will install it for you.

Database-only Backups

These are generated by a custom program running on the server. All customer MySQL databases are included.

  • Run - at approximately 2am each day.
  • Retained - for 120 days.
  • Stored - locally, then sent (via HTTPS) to a secure AWS S3 repository and stored using AES256 encryption. The local copies are then deleted.
  • Restoration - customers must open a support ticket to request a database backup restoration.
